Camera Repair Industry News Weekly Update – June 29th, 2012

Canon released a firmware update for the EOS 7D! Why is that so exciting? Well it is a pretty significant update that’s why... It literally enhances the performance and expands its capabilities. It increases the number of shots a user can shoot in continuous with RAW from 15 to 25. With the update you will be able to process RAW images in camera and limit the maximum ISO setting in ISO Auto. It also enables manual adjustment of audio levels prior to recording video giving videographers the ability to manually adjust up to 64 audio levels. Custom file naming in camera will also be an option for those who update. And lastly it will allow compatibility with Canon’s newly introduced GPS Receiver GP-E2 optional accessory. Ricoh also released a firmware update recently for its GXR series cameras. The update is for the body and the lenses. For the body it is said to improve the quality of images taken when the negative exposure compensation is combined with the multi-area 'Multi-P Auto' white balance setting. One of the latest big things in the photo industry is action cameras. If you know what I’m talking about then you have heard of the “GoPro” action cameras because it is the clear dominator in this market at the moment. Sony has announced its answer to GoPro and there has been some talk that it may be the GoPro killer but that still has yet to be seen. This is mostly to do with the fact that there is still very little known about the little guy. It looks super easy to use, its tiny, and there will be some accessories to allow you to attach it pretty much anywhere to your person. Pentax has two big news items... First, they have release their new K-30 weather sealed DSLR. The camera features a 16.3-megapixel APS-C sensor with shift-based stabilization, a 100-percent field of view optical viewfinder, and a 3-inch LCD; overall a pretty awesome addition to Pentax’s camera line. Power and Associates, according to their recent survey owners of Pentax DSLRs are the most satisfied with their online purchases.
